Bardstown Bourbon Company Origin Series: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bardstown Bourbon Company Origin Series: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Cost: $50 at a local liquor store (South Carolina)
Age: 6 years
Proof: 96 proof
Mash Bill: 60% corn/32% rye/4% malted barley
Reviewed neat in a glencairn.
Appearance: A light chestnut brown. Medium, fast legs and leaves significant beads on the side of the glass after a minute or two. It appears thin.
Nose: Orange peel and some spice and mint. There’s a very mild sweetness, but difficult to pinpoint it more than just a sweet note.
Palate: Very spicy! A very faint oakiness. There’s a lot of heat on this. I’ve had this bottle open and about 1/2 to 2/3 full for over 4 months and it still feels like 30 proof points higher than what it is. It doesn’t have much mouth feel – kinda just like hot water.
Finish: Leaves the mouth tingling. Kinda peppermint like. There’s a very mild, nearly non-existent, hug that shows up deep in the chest, almost at the bottom of the sternum.
Rating: 3.8/10
Overall: I’m a fan of Bardstown Bourbon Company and was really looking forward to their Origin Series this year. While I thought I was really going to enjoy this one, it’s really…not that great. It’s just really hot and not very complex at all. Notes are kinda flat and the heat really just overwhelms most notes. I’m a bit disappointed in this expression, but I’ve not given up on BBC. This is one of their first 100% their own expressions. Give em a few more years to help perfect it (fingers crossed…)
1 | Disgusting | So bad I poured it out.
2 | Poor | I wouldn’t consume by choice.
3 | Bad | Multiple flaws.
4 | Sub-par | Not bad, but many things I’d rather have.
5 | Good | Good, just fine.
6 | Very Good | A cut above.
7 | Great | Well above average
8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional.
9 | Incredible | An all time favorite
10 | Perfect | Perfect
